Some of you saw my post on Friday about a set of Magnum 500’s I found on Craigslist for the Montego!

Well, Possible is now in strike through , because I bought them. Stupid Kinja won’t let me do strikethrough in the title... I BOUGHT THEM THOUGH!

I got the guy down to $100 for a set of 4 Magnum 500’s. 2 are 14x5.5 for the front and the other 2 are 14x7 for the rear.

I know some of you expressed concern about them not being 15’s so I could fit disc brake upgrades in the future, but giving they only cost 100 bucks, it’s worth it. Front suspension kits cost more than the whole car cost me so that’s a long way down the road (If it ever happens).

The guy also threw in an original “space saver” spare wheel/tire. I don’t really have much interest in this, but it was included.

Here’s some pics of them now that I got them home, they look better than the original pictures I saw on Craigslist. This guy could have sold them for more if he took better pics of them.

Basically, the chrome on them is practically flawless. The black paint obviously needs to be re-done. Definitely better than I expected and now I can save up for a while for some new tires to wrap around them!

Also if anyone knows anything about these codes and could offer some insight that would be great. I don’t care if they are original 1968 Ford rims, at $25 a wheel who cares if they’re aftermarket? Just want to know what I have.

Yeah I’m pretty amazed I got them at that price. It wasn’t even a hard barter.

I called him Friday, he said I’d be really happy with them and I just said “So, do you have any wiggle room on the price there?” He said - “What do I have them posted for $150?” I said yeah. So he says “I suppose I could do $100”.

SOLD when can I pick them up?

I’ll have to check in on those.

I might be able to get a discount on Cooper Cobra G/T’s, which are typically 50 bucks less than the BFG’s to start with, so add on a discount and I may be sold. I know the BFG’s are great but I do like Coopers

If I go the discount rate, probably not.

My dad is a Cooper distributor, it’s one reason why we went with the Cooper Discoverer AT/3’s on the lifted Commander, I got them, 2 sizes up from stock, for about 135-140 a tire.

Thanks man, I’m really excited. This is the first visual modification the Montego will get. Everything else has been hidden under the hood.

Oh yeah white letter all the way.

If I can afford the BFG’s I may go that route if not, Cooper Cobra G/T’s are a lot more affordable.

Get Radial T/As or Firestone Indy 500s. That’s what I use on my Lemans with 14x7 wheels.

I’m between the BFG Radial T/A’s and the Cooper Cobra G/T’s, definitely going to go Raised White Letter on them.

Coopers are about 50 less a tire, and I may be able to score a discount, my dad’s a Cooper distributor.

Thanks man, I’m pretty psyched about them. First real external visual modification will be these wheels. I think it’ll have a pretty big impact.

Going to be a little while though, I have to save up for tires.

Hahahaha! I was a little worried about that actually!

I mean, 25 bucks a wheel! Even if I check the codes on them to find out their reproduction and not original, it’s still only 25 bucks a wheel!!!!

Yeah, and 100 bucks is cheap enough that it’s not a big deal if I have to do that in the future. If I had to pay 150 a wheel or something - that would be a problem.

It basically is already because I believe it needs freeze plugs replaced so the antifreeze is just coming out of it. Gotta drop the trans to get to them I believe (or pull the engine all together).

Hahaha. Real hard to do a lot of detail work with gloves on. Oh and you can’t paint under certain temps, so the wheels might not get painted until the spring.
